Olive's StoryOne thing about rescue, you are always searching for equipment and you are never “set up.” Every day is a new adventure is tearing down, moving stuff around, setting up and making do. We are always on the hunt for another kennel run, sturdy crates, and fencing. One day in 2017, our rehabilitation coordinator, Paulina and her husband CJ, answered an ad for a kennel run and were directed to an abandoned property that was boarded up.
Conferring by phone with the sellers, they did find a kennel run in the yard and were told to take the run and leave payment in an old car. Looking closer at the kennel, they realized it was inhabited by an underweight, anxious litlle mountain cur dog. This poor girl was left behind when the family moved. Another phone call and they were instructed to take the run and turn the dog out, which they could not possibly do. Paulina and CJ provided food and fresh water to Olive and continued to talk to the family. After phone conversations over two days, the family agreed to give Olive up. They were just not in a position to care for her. Mind you, we were trying to buy a run so that we could put a dog in it that we already had! And we did not want to take on any more vet bills! But what are the choices? Document the situation and turn it over to Animal Control or pitch in and help. Olive was 2 years old and very sweet. She had severe parasite infestations and needed some time to lose her anxiety at the abandonment. Lee Shore Rescue built up her health and confidence, checked her heart worm status, spayed her , got her shots up to date and addressed any other health issues (fleas, ticks, deworming, etc.). Blessings to Paulina and CJ for going the extra mile to find out her situation and make it better for this sweet and lonely pup. Olive was adopted by a loving young family in the Atlanta, GA area. She is living the life she deserves. What a happy girl she has become! Thanks for thinking of rescue animals!
