Dolly was a stray puppy who wandered out of the woods into the yard of a kind woman who did not have much extra to share. “Louise” had a modest rental home with a yard and she had a big heart. She fixed up a safe space in a shed for Dolly, fed her, kept up with her flea issues and loved her. What Louise had, she shared. And so things went for a couple of years. Dolly was a happy dog, who felt loved, and was comfortable in her world. She had a litter of pups each spring, Louise did all she able for them and found them the best homes she could.
In the Summer of 2017, Louise took mercy on “Doris,” a friend who had hit some hard times. She invited Doris to stay with her until she could get herself together. And then disaster struck: Doris accidentally started a house fire and Louise found herself homeless. Although she tried, she was not able to find a place which would allow Dolly and her current 2 puppies. Sadly she contacted us through Facebook. We arranged to take Dolly and the babies to give her time to search a bit longer for housing that would suit them. In the end, Louise had no choice but to give Dolly and the babies up. Lee Shore took Dolly in and gave her the medical attention which was not affordable for Louise. She was spayed, immunized and started on heart worm treatment. She was already a very nice dog, but she was given some time in a foster environment to learn house life. She became leash trained, crate trained, house trained… And what did Dolly get for Christmas? A secure new home with a loving family!
