Work with the Animals

Become a foster pet parent!
Volunteer to bring underprivileged pets into your home and care for them until they are adopted! We'll pay vet bills and provide food, you provide love and a safe place to land. Choose how many pets you want to take in and what type you're comfortable working with, whether that's adult cats only, litters of puppies, or anything in between!
Requirements:
apply through the rescue
must have experience with animals and agree to follow our rules for our animals

Become a kennel volunteer!
We need people who can come to Maternity House, the Rehabilitation Center, and the Pet Store to clean kennels, feed and walk dogs, and help them get socialized.
Requirements:
must be able to commit to a regular schedule each week (ex. 9-11 am, MWF)
must have experience with dogs and agree to follow our rules for our dogs

Join the Freedom Highway

Be a stop on the freedom highway and give at risk pets a safe place to land on their way to a better life.
Because we are a specialized rescue, we are often solicited by other shelters to take on cases that they aren't equipped to handle, sometimes from places pretty far away. We are always on the lookout for places where we can meet shelter representatives from other places to pick up pets, or meet adopters to send their new babies home with them. If you're not local but would like to help, this can be a great, low time commitment option!
Requirements:
You live in the Carolinas, Tennessee, Georgia, or Virginia
You have experience with animals and a safe place for a possibly sick, injured, or traumatized animal to hang out for a while

Drive for us.
When a call comes from a shelter six hours away asking if we can take a terrified pregnant eight month old dog before her euthanization appointment the next day, sometimes we need someone to jump in the car and rush to the rescue. If you're the kind of superhero who can help, we want you!
Requirements:
You live in the Carolinas, Tennessee, Georgia, or Virginia
You have experience with animals and know how to ride safely with one in the car and transfer it safely from one place to another
You have a valid driver's license and a functioning vehicle

Share Your Skills

Volunteer remotely with any skills you think might come in handy! Some examples of things we need are:

  • Great writers/editors who can send acceptance letters, rejections, and other correspondences following our organizational standards

  • Social media gurus who can come up with relevant content and schedule it for our social media pages

  • People persons who can help with application processing and communicate with applicants and adopters

  • Whatever ideas you come up with!

Our biggest, most constant need, is money. We rely on adoptions and donations to fuel our efforts, and these pups need a lot of care! If you're short on time but would like to help, donations are a wonderful way to contribute to this important work.
